"I had to find my way"

She acts, she sings, she composes, she writes, she dances ... To call Sascha Ley a multidisciplinary artist would almost be an understatement. We meet the busy German-Luxembourgish multi-talent on a freezing cold but dry day and take a walk with her through the city centre.

When I arrive at the restaurant where we have arranged to meet for lunch, Sascha Ley is already sitting at the table. I'm slightly late, which is not usually my style, but on the way to get there I bumped into two acquaintances I haven't seen for a long time, so we had a chat. It can happen.

Sascha Ley is also something of an old acquaintance. We know each other from back in the day and have bumped into each other from time to time over the years – in Luxembourg or in Saarbrücken, where Sascha lived at the time and I had a girlfriend.

A week before our meeting, I saw her in the English-language solo piece Cosmos (Not Enough), which she wrote herself – text, performance, video, sound: Sascha Ley – and was thrilled. A tour de force of acting, singing and dancing; Sascha Ley alone on the stage of the Théâtre National du Luxembourg for more than an hour. A few days later, she performs her homage Hildegard Knef Revisited together with jazz musician Georg Ruby at the Escher Theatre, followed by a concert of her project Axis Mundi in Dudelange.

So there's plenty to talk about over dinner. Afterwards, we take a long walk through the lower town and marvel once again at how beautiful it is here. We then have the actual conversation in a café in the upper town.
